குறளின் குரல் - 554

இறைகாக்கும் வையகம் எல்லாம் அவனை

முறைகாக்கும் முட்டாச் செயின்.

                         (குறள் 547: செங்கோன்மை அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

iRaikAkkum vaiyagam ellAm avanai

muRaikAkkum muTTach cheyin

iRai - - the ruler of the country, king

kAkkum – will protect

vaiyagam ellAm – people of his country

avanai – such a king

muRai – the just rule of his

kAkkum – will protect

muTTach cheyin – if he renders just rule, without any hinderance

King is like God that protects his citizens; the king is protected by his just rule of unbent scepter, if he rules without any defects in the administration – another chapter filling verse.

There have been many rulers documented in the pages of Tamil history; ManunIdhi Chola who ran the chariot over his only son,  to render justice to a cow whose calf had been accidentally killed by his son, PoRkai PANDiyA who severed his own hand to convince a doubting husband and the citizens that did not realize his good intentions were the glorious rulers. Even the PANDiyan Nedunchezhiyan who took his own life after KANNAgi proved to him about her husband's innocence.

"King protects his country; A rule of unbent scepter

 Is his protection; if done without defects that deter"

தமிழிலே:

இறை - அரசன், நாட்டை ஆளும் தலைவன்

காக்கும் - காப்பான்

வையகம் எல்லாம் - தான் ஆளும் நாட்டினரை

அவனை - அத்தகு அரசனை

முறை - அவனுடைய செங்கோன்மை கொண்ட நீதிவழுவா முறையான ஆட்சியே

காக்கும் - காக்கும்

முட்டாச்செயின். - அதில் ஏதும் தடையில்லாமல் செய்தால்.

அரசன் அல்லது நாட்டை ஆளுபவனே தன் குடிகளைக் காப்பவன்.  அவ்வரசனைக் காப்பது, அவனுடை செங்கோல் கோணாத ஆட்சி முறையாம், அதையும் அவன் தடையறச் செய்வானாயின் - இதுவே இக்குறள் சொல்லும் கருத்து.

நீதிவழுவா ஆட்சிசெய்தவர்க்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டு, மகனென்றும் பாராமல், பசுவுக்காக, தன் மகனைத் தேர்க்காலில் இட்ட மனுநீதிச் சோழனும், கற்புடைய குடிமகளுக்காக தன் கையை இழந்த பொற்கைப் பாண்டியனும். நீதிமுறை தவறி, கண்ணகியால் தன் தவறை உணர்ந்து செங்கோல் தாழ்ந்தமைக்காகத், தன்னையே மாய்த்துக்கொண்ட பாண்டியன் நெடுஞ்செழியனும் நீதிவழுவா மன்னர்களே.

இன்றெனது குறள்:

கோல்கோணாக் கோனைசெங் கோன்முறையே காக்குமாப்

போல்காக்கும் கோனுந்தன் நாடு (கோனும் தன் - கோனுந்தன்)
